As
we know from Isaiah’s prophesy, the story of Christmas began long before
Christ’s birth in Bethlehem. Isaiah
40:3-4 prophesied that John the Baptist would be a part of that preparation “The
voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God: Every valley shall be
exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain:
And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together:
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
The prophet Malachi also spoke of this preparation in Malachi 3:1, “Behold,
I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord,
whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the
covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.” Matthew 3:3; Mark 1:3; Luke 3:4-6 and John
1:23 all spoke of the reality of this preparation for the Lord Jesus Christ’s
coming.
It
is wonderful to know that our all wise heavenly Father made long preparation
for the coming of His Son to this Earth.
This should prove to us all that we were on God’s mind over the
centuries before Christ’s birth. Praise
God, He knew that we need a savior and He cared enough to send his only Son to
be born of a virgin and to live ,suffer and die to pay the penalty for our
sins. We were all sinners by choice, but
even before we committed sins, we were born with the curse of sin that was
brought upon us all by Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden.
