Music and the Allied Arts--Dance B

Music and the Allied Arts--Dance B
To begin our discussion let me say that the Bible is not silent about dance.   After many years of study of dance in the Bible, I have come to the strong conclusion that there are no Bible mandates for Christians to dance, and the inclusion of dance as a part of worship in the First or Second Temple is nowhere traceable. The reason I mention the First and Second Temple is because it is the only place in the Old Testament where we have examples of the use of music as a part of *codified public worship.
However, the Bible does mention dance.  The worst mistake that a music educator could make would be to ignore the mention of dance in the Bible because students should discuss dance in (and out of) the Bible in the context of the Christian classroom.  If a music educator ignores the mention of dance in the Bible and the history of dance in general, students will more than likely only have a secular view and/ or a liberal Christian view of dance.  Although it is outside the scope of this book to thoroughly study in the Bible, I suggest that the reader should refer to Music of the Bible in Christian Perspective which has a very thorough word by word study of Dance in the Bible.
