"True Truth" Not Exhaustive Truth Part 2

“True Truth” Not Exhaustive Truth  Part 2

It was only a few generations ago that the United States was known for its strong Judeo-Christian ethic.  Now whether or not the Bible is accurate in what it teaches about music and musicing is almost a mute point to many Christian musicians, because the basis on which they develop a music philosophy does not include what the Bible says about the nature and value of the whole of music. Although they may quote a few verses in the Bible that mention music, what they say and what they do is often diametrically opposed.
Christian musicians must realize that all the truth we have available to us in the Bible is congruent truth.  The reason that so many Christian musicians’ music philosophies are not congruent is that much of their study has been isolated and therefore not congruent. Francis Schaeffer stated, “We have studied our exegesis as exegesis, our theology as theology, our philosophy as philosophy; we study something about art as art; we study music as music, without understanding that these are things of man, and the things of man are not unrelated parallel lines.” Escape from Reason, by Francis Schaeffer, p. 12   Because of this isolation of the various disciplines, more and more Christian musicians see no problem with studying music as music without bringing it into amenability with the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  It is no wonder that there are so many incongruncies in the way that many twenty first century Christians music.
