Psalm
34:3 states, “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together."
I
was pondering over this verse this morning and my thoughts ranged from “that’s
a good idea” to “that’s what we should do when we music together in
worship”. It is interesting to note that
the Hebrew word gadol (1431) that is translated magnify in this verse is one of
the te’amim. The Hebrew words zaqef
gadol are used as a subordinate degree of the prosodic system and their
combined etymological meaning is “greater rising”.
I may be a little peculiar but I get
blessed thinking that the actual musical structure of one of the embellishment
figures of Bible music suggests lifting God up in a more profound way. Christian worship leaders must be absolutely
sure that the music used in public worship lifts God up in the minds and hearts
of the people. This Sunday ask God to
enable you through music to give Him a “greater rising”
