Today is Sunday
November 29th and it is the beginning of the Advent season this year. The term Advent is derived from the Latin word
adventus and means
“the coming”. Advent is observed for the
four Sundays leading up to Christmas.
Although some Churches do not make much mention or fuss over this
season, it has been observed by Christian Churches since the fourth century.
Galatians
4:4-5 explains that, “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent
forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were
under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” It is no wonder that devout Christians have
counted the days of Advent with great Joy for many centuries. Those who have been adopted as sons and
daughters of God have a right and a responsibility to look forward to Christ’s
coming with exceeding great joy. So,
today I start looking forward to Christ’s birthday with happiness and
anticipation!
