When
I started my first job as a janitor at Mid America Business Forms when I was in
college, one of my first tasks was to help the senior custodian to mop and wax
the tile floors in the offices. He
observed my struggle with the mop for a while then he said, “Son you got to
work the mop instead of lettin’ it work you.”
What he did next has stayed with me all these years. He took my mop and began to let it glide over
the tile floor. He didn’t just tell me
to work the mop—he showed me how to mop!
