When Conservatives take the
Musical Exit Ramps-Part-11
Instead of blaming time-honored music as the
culprit for mundane worship, church
leadership should develop a worship philosophy that includes a worship theology
and a music praxis that will act as a guide to carrying out the well thought
out beliefs established by the church’s leadership. Remember that
philosophically music should be a means to an end instead of the end of
worship. It is the responsibility of church leadership to establish a
prescriptive approach to church music.
This must include a line that the church will not cross when it comes to
what is right and wrong, appropriate and inappropriate music for the worship of
a high and holy God.
The Bible teaches very clearly that
the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD--not permissiveness. Furthermore, a Bible based music philosophy
must be congruent with, not only the direct references to music and musicing
taught in the Bible, but also those principles of a changed life that are
taught in God’s WORD. All who music in
God’s house are Christians first and musicians second. The Bible is filled with the teaching that
although Christians are in the cosmos they are not of the aion. Romans 12:2 states very lucidly, “And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
