How
Should We Then Worship? Part 1
Note: the verses quoted below will not be repeated in each part
of this series, but they are important for each day’s discussion. I suggest that you open your Bible to these
Scriptures each day as you read the blog post.
Soli Deo Gloria
2 Chronicles
29:26-30, “And the Levites stood with
the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt
offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD
began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king
of Israel. And all the congregation
worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded: and all this
continued until the burnt offering was finished. And when they had made an end of offering,
the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves, and
worshipped. Moreover Hezekiah the king
and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words
of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they
bowed their heads and worshipped.”
These
five verses that the Chronicler carefully recorded in the Second Book of
Chronicles, under the inspiration of the blessed Holy Spirit is a beautiful
account of a worship service in ancient Israel. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us, “All scripture
is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be
perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” So, on the authority of God’s Inspired Word,
it behooves those of us who care about the use of music in public worship to
study this profitable Bible lesson about
how we should music in God’s house.
