The Book of
Psalms—part 1
There
is an enormous amount of literature written about the Book of Psalms. These
sources include writings from ancient to modern times and range from technical
to devotional. The Book of Psalms is the most ancient complete collection of
mono-theistic lyric and didactic poetry extant today. It is probably the greatest ancient religious
poetry ever written. These songs written
about God have had an unmeasurable influence on mankind from antiquity to
present. The Psalms is studied and
respected by Christian and secular scholar’s alike. The various psalms are studied as literature
and the collection is studied as a unit. Certainly the Book of Psalms affords
an excellent opportunity to communicate with literature and poetry scholars who
are post postmoderns.
Thought for
the Day
Poetry scholars who do not respect the Book of Psalms as inspired Scripture do
respect the Psalter for its historic and poetic value.
